MCG BioComposites, LLC began operations in August 2007 by Founder and President/CEO Sam McCord and Partners Dean Reck, Technical Sales Manager and Phil Neville, Manager of Recycling to provide sales, marketing and commercialization of materials that are biobased. Mr. McCord started the new company to handle the growth of the biobased materials and to keep the his other business, McCord Consulting Group, Inc., separate entities, but affiliated for additional services to the customer base. MCG provides Executive Search, Business Development Consulting and Business Acquisition Search to the plastics industry nationwide. The two companies offer a unique and effective combination of critical business services.
How It All Began
Mr. McCord has been a long time member of the Society of Plastics Engineers and has served on the Board of Directors for the Iowa Section in all capacities, including a three year term as a Vice President on the Executive Committee of SPE International from 2005 to 2007. His involvement with SPE has allowed him to become acquainted with many companies and professionals in the plastics industry worldwide. While serving as President of the SPE Iowa Section in 2004, he was asked to be involved with the Iowa Biomass Working Group by Jay Olson, Global Polymers Technology Manager, Deere & Company, to provide representation to the plastics industry since there were no members on the board. It was comprised of farmers, academia, government and manufacturers in the metals industry. This group was formed by the Advanced Manufacturing Research and Collaboration Cluster to promote the use and commercialization of bioproducts materials and to collaborate of the research and development as well as knowledge sharing of technologies. The end result was to encourage the state, county and local entities to purchase Iowa bio-renewable products. Through his direct involvement with this group, his skills were utilized to help two private entities with the commercialization of biobased materials using switch grass and kenaf fibers which were being grown locally in southern Iowa.
